Gad Elmaleh vit aux États-Unis depuis trois ans. Lorsqu'il revient à Paris, il n'ose dire à ses parents, juifs fervents, qu'il s'est converti au catholicisme et s'apprête à se faire baptiser. Un chemin intime qu'il avait entamé lorsqu'il était enfant, à Casablanca, et qu'il avait «rencontré» la Vierge Marie dans une église catholique où il était entré en cachette avec sa soeur.
