Frustrée tant sur le plan affectif que professionnel, Kristin Adams voit la place dans l'agence de relations publiques où elle est consultante junior lui échapper. Sa soeur, Sara, lui conseille de prendre une coach de vie et Kristin trouve bientôt la perle rare : Ashley Thomas. Ce flamboyant mentor lui fait regagner confiance en elle-même et Kristin trouve un rapidement meilleur travail dans une autre agence. Cependant, Ashley se fait de plus en plus intrusive et souhaite «l'élimination des influences toxiques» dont Sara fait les frais.
